Rufus Hound wants to be female Doctor's companion

Rufus Hound in The Woman Who Lived (C) BBC

In an interview with UK listings magazine, TV & Satellite Week (on sale now), actor Rufus Hound has been chatting about his upcoming Doctor Who episode, The Woman Who Lived, also starring Maisie Williams.

During the interview, Hound, who guested on Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor (2013), turned his attention to the future of his character Sam Swift:
"If the Doctor regenerates in female form then it seems straightforward to me that the companion needs to be a man - at which point Sam is available to fill that gap.

And if you're going to have a blisteringly smart Doctor then, arguably, you could have an absolute idiot as companion. And I would definitely fit the mould."
