The Thick of It creator wants to write for Doctor Who

Writer and comedian Armando Iannucci has told The Guardian that he hopes to write an episode of Doctor Who in the future. Iannucci previously worked with Peter Capaldi (The Twelfth Doctor) on BBC comedy, The Thick of It.

According to The Guardian, current Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat had spoken with the writer and "had a good idea where he would take the Doctor." Iannucci said:
“I’m a big fan of Doctor Who and obviously with Peter, who’s loving it, it would be nice to. I’ve spoken off and on to them but it’s a case of being able to fit something in. It’s a nice thought.

In our conversations there was an idea we had, but it may be a wee while yet before we get round to working out when it would be. Knowing I am committed for the next year or so, it’s all on hold. Let’s get back in touch when we can.”
Back in 2013, just after Peter Capaldi was announced, Iannucci  said he'd "love to" write an episode of Doctor Who - read what he had to say HERE. Series 9 of Doctor Who is currently being filmed, so it's not going to be this year when we see an episode from the writer. Check out the Series 9 guide HERE.
