Always a fan of Tom Baker and always a fan of the Zygons, so this audio could be the perfect story.

The Doctor and Leela land on Garros, where they discover the planet has been ‘reserved’ for a hunting party, the prey being The Zygons. Obviously the Zygons are there as part of their own plan to destroy earths defences and are sat in waiting for this hunting party. As the dramatic summary of the audio says “…a heavy price will be extracted and loyalties will be tested to the limit.”

Tom Baker is as wonderful as ever. The most amazing this about him, is that his voice just never seems to age. Despite the older gentlemen we saw in the 50th Anniversary Special, whenever I hear that voice I always imagine The Fourth Doctor from years gone by and that's a real bonus. He is supported by a wonderful cast, including Louise Jameson reprising her role as Leela.

But is this the perfect story…? I’m afraid not. There just isn’t much substance to the plot and everything seems a bit easy. Any mystery in the plot was decimated, with the humble listener being bludgeoned with obvious plot peculiarities. I also found myself not caring in any of the characters.  While the story makes a stab at redeeming a character its too little too late.

But all of that said, it is surprisingly easy to listen to, more so than a lot of audio adventures and I’m sure most people would find it easy to lose themselves for part of an afternoon.  It just didn’t do it for me in the end.

BLOGTOR RATING 7/10
Thanks to Big Finish
